Paper Piecing

I was asked to present paper piecing to our guild. As all good project intentions go it was bound to have a few flaws. I knew that once I made the project from my template I would be making modifications.

Oh my, I forgot to mirror the design.

Do you have any paper piecing stories to share?

Let DVD Covers Inspire you

Let the colors from your favorite DVD movie covers inspire your creative spirit. Use the color palate in total or in part in your next quilt, bag, or project. Below are some examples of color palates from a few DVD covers.

Block of the Month - Block B

Block B

Use a Scant Quarter Inch Seam

To make the Block of the Month you may want to use a scant quarter inch seam. I sew on a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960. In order to obtain a scant quarter inch seam move the needle to the right. To move the needle to the right follow the steps below.

Instructions for the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960.

Click on the straight stitch (centered) width / length button.

Click on the needle arrow right selection to move from 3.5 to 3.8.

How do you change your sewing practices to obtain a scant quarter inch seam?

Log Cabin Orphans

The North Missouri Piecemakers' Quilt Guild is in need of backings for their charity quilts so I started adopting homeless blocks. My goal is to give these orphan blocks a home. An orphan block is one that did not make it into a quilt and sets among the stash, waiting for the opportunity to warm some one's heart and soul. The quilt made from these mismatched blocks will be used as a backing for one of the many charity quilts the guild makes.

Here are some log cabin orphans finding their place in the world pieced together with Bella Solids color cocoa (item/color 9900 180).

What do you do with your misfit or left over blocks?
