Baptist Home Show
To further discuss the Baptist Home Show on Friday, I will repeat myself and say that it was a very pleasing, fulfilling, uplifting experience. To those who didn't make it, you missed out. There was a fairly small attendance, but there was enough enjoyment for a large program. A few of the residents owned some vintage quilts that they brought along to include in the show which was very interesting.
The most frequently voiced question by the residents was 'And you're just giving these away?!'. They were in disbelief that we had made 21 quilts just so they could find new homes at the Baptist Home, and they thanked us repeatedly. We met several very nice folks (including one lady who was 103 and sharper than a tack!). We were short on quilts to show that already had homes with some of our guild members, which cut the program a tad short, but I think the main event was giving away the quilts.
Something I found particularly touching about the experience; patterns that quilters find simple or easy to sew up in one or two days are 'ooo'ed and 'ahhh'ed over by others and the quilts are cherished and appreciated by those who accept them. But the most beautiful things of all weren't the quilts; they were the charitable and caring thoughts of the quilters as they made every stitch. So a big thanks to everyone who took time out of their own projects to quilt and/or piece what has become a treasure to someone else.
I also want to extend a special thanks to our community service quilt director, Sue. While she wasn't the only quilter involved in making the quilts, she has been kind and patient enough to store 21+ quilts in her home so the rest of us wouldn't have to try to find the space. Not even to mention having to lug them to and from meetings for months. So thanks, Sue.
We hope to see all of you at our meeting next week on the 20th! PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR CHRISTMAS QUILTS SO DARLENE CAN HAVE A FULL PROGRAM FOR HER CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST PRESENTATION!!

A Quick Update
Just to let everyone know, our show at the Baptist Home went great. It was a very fun time and I think we made the day of a few ladies who were residents at the home. That is always a very nice feeling. I (Katie) will make a more lengthy post about this as soon as I get the pictures together.
Also as part of the quick update, I just wanted to quickly let everyone know that while it is not definite that we will be having another Penney Days quilt show with the Braymer guild, it is looking likely. Romme has been in touch with Dana and she says that the board of the Federated Church says it is okay to use the sanctuary as well as the fellowship hall for our show, and it will be available to rent on the weekend of Penney Days (which I believe is Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th of September).
Also as part of the quick update, I just wanted to quickly let everyone know that while it is not definite that we will be having another Penney Days quilt show with the Braymer guild, it is looking likely. Baptist Home Show
Hello everyone :) Tomorrow is the quilt show at the Baptist Home Nursing Home in Chillicothe.
For anyone not from the Chillicothe area, you may not be very familiar with it as it is located a little out of the way. The Baptist Home is located on the very north edge of Chillicothe on Highway 65 (Washington Street). If you are familiar with the turn-off off of 65 onto Highway 190 that takes you out to the high school, this is should be easy to find. Instead of making a left turn out to the school, you continue on through that traffic signal straight out north as if you were starting for Trenton. You continue past the Social Services Office and the Salvation Army, and then on your right there will be a large brick building set back off the highway, and in front of it a pond. That is the Baptist Home.
Once you get there, there is parking in front of the building near the entrance that way may use (the one with the awning). Directions to the room we will be in are explained in an email from the president.
The activity director, Mrs. Stark, is a wonderful lady and will be very helpful and cooperative.
We hope to see you there, and don't forget to bring any quilt(s) you want!

July Meeting
We had a great meeting last night! Several members and a few guests attended, and - the air conditioner was working! It wasn't a half bad time.
We had a regular business meeting before our guest speaker made her presentation.
PLEASE MARK YOU CALENDARS FOR AUGUST THE 7th!!! WE WILL BE HAVING OUR QUILT SHOW AT THE BAPTIST HOME ON THAT MORNING. Please email president for further information if you were unable to attend the meeting last night to collect details.
ALSO! AUGUST'S FRIDAY NIGHT SEW HAS BEEN CANCELLED BECAUSE OF SCHEDULING CONFLICTS WITH THE BAPTIST HOME SHOW. PLEASE TAKE NOTE!
Carolyn also proposed 3 different field trips and passed around sign-up sheets for each. One would be an overnight trip to the Lincoln, NE quilt museum, a day trip to Fabriquilt in Kansas City, and another day trip to Brunswick, MO where she has heard they have a good quilt shop.
Our guest speaker was Cindy Morris from MSQC who showed and demoed a few new quilting gadgets including a nifty lazy-susan type cutting/ironing board, a new style of rotary cutter, a cordless iron, plus more.
Next month's meeting (August the 20th) is Darlene's Christmas in August program, so please bring your holiday quilts with you!

June Meeting
We had another meeting last night! We got several volunteers to help in August at our program at the Baptist Home, which is great. Progress has been made on tying the quilt that the guild has been hired to refurbish (special thanks to Sue and Maxine who stayed at Friday Night Sew until after 11pm to work on it!).
Our monthly program was a web class hosted by Charlotte and Katie. I (Katie) personally enjoyed it a lot and I hope everyone else did as well (though the air conditioning situation could have been better). We hope some of our suggestions will help you to feel more comfortable not only using the blog but your computer as well. So please feel free to poke around and experiment on here! If you have any questions regarding computer usage, please email me (my email address is on the Twisted Stitchers mailing list).
A suggestion was made by Deloris to merge with the Braymer Crazy Quilters (forgive me if I got the name wrong) to put on a quilt show later this year. There will be no raffle ticket selling, so it will only be a couple day's job. Some had thoughts of having this during Penney Days in Hamilton once again to draw a larger crowd.

May Meeting
The guild had a wonderful meeting last night! We had a fantastic attendance, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Progress has been made on the Round Robin, and it is now completed. Maxine will be quilting it for us, and if we choose to have another quilt show next year, it will be our opportunity quilt.
The guild has been commissioned to tie an old quilt made of double-knit for a gentleman in Kidder. It will be a fundraiser for the guild, and it will be a project to work on at Friday Night Sew for anyone that will be interested in pitching in.
Sue showed several community service quilts last night that are completed. Darlene has volunteered to deliver some of them to the Highway Patrol, and the rest will be used for our Baptist Home program on August 7th. The few twin-sized quilts that are completed will be donated to a retreat hosted by the Kidder Methodist Church for families of inmates of the Cameron prison.
After our regular meeting, our special program for the month was a presentation by Jenny Doan. Jenny showed and discussed a few quilts that she has made, and proved that easy sewing doesn't have to look like it was easy. Jenny is a master of making simplicity look like a complex, intricate project. She encourages new sewers rather than intimidating them by busting the myth that quilting is an untouchable, unattainable art form. She also took several questions from the crowd and talked very openly about future plans for the massively successful Missouri Star Quilt Co. and about it's past. She discussed the (pending) plans for future shops and other additions to the increasingly beautiful and renewed berg that is Hamilton, Missouri, which was very exciting. She also told the (rather funny) story of how MSQC got into precuts, and shared some of the other unplanned events and accidents that made MSQC what it is today.
