June Meeting

Our June meeting was Thursday night! It was a success, I think everyone will agree, because we had several guests come to see Mary U.'s great presentation on the history of aprons, which was informative, nostalgic, and very interesting.

Old Business - Quilt show categories rediscussed; ribbons will be awarded for first place winners, certificates for second and third. Ribbons need to be ordered. Deloris will be printing ballots and quilt entry numbers once again this year.

New Business - We have been invited to use MSQC's scrap batting from their machine quilting department for our community service quilts. Some had thoughts of gathering this and sewing it together into larger pieces at the next Friday Night Sew.

Community service- Jeanie finished with homespun quilt. 

Old Business- Romme suggested choosing days for members to sit out in various high-traffic public places to sell tickets.  Some suggested the Fourth of July festivities in Cameron to sit out, and others brought up the MSQC grand reopening in June, and also the car show in Chillicothe.

April Meeting

Our April meeting was Thursday night! It was a fairly short meeting, but we discussed somethings before our program by Dixie.

The Hamilton Federated Church has been booked for the day of Saturday, September 24th for our quilt show. The motion to hold the show was officially approved. 

Some suggestions were made for ways to save money on ribbons for the show. Some had ideas of checking Michael's or Hobby Lobby for inexpensive alternatives to our ribbons we have had in past years. Others thought that paper certificates could replace the 2nd and 3rd place ribbons to cut costs. No official motion was made to go through with these ideas. 


New Business: May's meeting will be graced with a program by Romme, demonstrating how to make a petal pillow. Patterns were passed out Thursday to those who who were interested in participating. 


Show and Tell: Barbara and Carolyn had projects to show. 

Carolyn is starting a quilting bee for the "New Hex" hexagon pattern that is so popular right now. The first meeting of this group will be held on the evening of Tuesday, May 10th at the MSQC Retreat Center. Please email Carolyn for additional information if you are interested.

March Meeting

We had another great meeting last night! We had a larger attendance than usual (plus two guests) which was nice. It's always more fun with more of you there to share in it :)

Committee Reports :

Block of the Month - Pat Y handed out March block and brought some members who had been absent in the new year up to date with January and February blocks. 

Website - Blog URL shared with guests 

Community Service - Baptist Home Quilt delivered. The Baptist Home faculty are planning on holding a silent auction for the quilt. 
There were volunteers to bind some community service quilts that had recently been machine quilted. 
Also, Romme passed out some kits she had cut for blocks to start on a new Quilt of Valor. 


Old Business - Our finished Round Robin will be raffled off this fall during Penney Days in Hamilton and the Missouri Star Birthday Bash. Our 1,000-piece package of raffle tickets has arrived, and over 200 have been passed out to our members to sell at their leisure. Times and places will be scheduled for members to set out with the quilt in the spring and summer to sell tickets. 

New Business - Becky proposed doing another quilt show this fall (Saturday, September 24th to be exact) in coordination once again with the MSQC Birthday Bash and Penney Days. We had already decided to hold our raffle then, so some thought that having a quilt show at the same time would draw more people to our raffle and would sell some additional tickets, plus it would be fun to have another quilt show. Deloris said that she would bring it up to her group (the Braymer Crazy Quilters) to see if they would once again like to have a joint show with us. Even though there is not absolutely positive certainty that there will be a quilt show, members agreed that we should go ahead and book the church for the whole day and not just the raffle time of 4pm.   

Also in New Business, we got the process started for this year's president's challenge, which is the Brown Bag Challenge. We exchanged our fat quarters in brown bags and the finished projects made with this material will be due in November, I believe. Please look to your inboxes for further information on this from Becky.

We had a great program by Maxine this month. She demonstrated how to make a simple but very creative bandanna table mat. It requires 4 bandannas. I personally think it is very cute and would make a great addition to your dining table for summer. 

Next months meeting will be on April 21, usual place and time, and we will be graced with a program by Dixie, demonstrating how to make a Fold 'n Stitch Wreath. And don't forget about Friday Night Sew on April 1st (Kidder Methodist Church, 6pm)!!

February Meeting

Community service- The lady to whom we donated a quilt after her family home was destroyed by a fire in Hamilton called to thank us. 

Old business-
We are still planning on selling raffle tickets on our Round Robin. We had the idea of selling the tickets on various weekends in various places over the summer, and then drawing for the quilt during Penney Days in Hamilton. So far, Katie and Sue have volunteered to sit out and sell them. 

The quilt for the Baptist Home is done and will soon be taken to the activity director at the Home.

January Meeting

We had our monthly meeting Thursday night! We had a good attendance for our very interesting program by Charlotte, and we started off the new year with our new officers exercising their new duties for the first time.

Website report 

Community service- Only a block or two from the main Missouri Star shop, a fire destroyed a family's Hamilton home. We have volunteered to donate our community service quilts that we had made and kept on reserve in case of such a tragedy.   A relative of the family who lost their home works at Caldwell County Library and is willing to take pictures of the donated quilts and publish them in the newspaper. 

Publicity is going well in local papers 

Old business- 

Becky reviewed program calendar for 2016. There are still some unaccounted for months. The hopes to form a calendar for the first six months of the year have not became a reality. I find at this time it would be of more utility to the group to post on a monthly basis what programs come next since there is still some degree of uncertainty regarding these first six months. 

Sue J. shared an idea regarding future programs. She knows of a lady who works at the Chillicothe museum who gives wonderful, engaging talks about aprons. I am uncertain if she specializes in vintage aprons or just aprons in general, but either would be lovely in a program. 

Maxine has completed quilting the Baptist Home quilt. As some of you may remember, when we had a quilt show at the Baptist Home last summer, some blocks were given to us that were made by a resident that passed away before she could do anything with them. They were given to us to put together and quilt and return to the Baptist home in time for their benefit auction, which is in June, I believe. 

The next quilt in line to get quilted by the talented Maxine is our Round Robin. 

In relationship to the Round Robin, some posed the question of how we planned to gain revenue in 2016. The raffle is a great way to get money for the guild, and some had thoughts of raffling off the Round Robin this summer/fall.

We had a wonderful program this month by Charlotte. She has designed a paper-piecing pattern of these lovely arrows and she hosted a workshop on them. It was a lot of fun and now I think everyone wants to make one of their own!
