Quilt Show!
We had our Penney Days Quilt Show yesterday! It was a load
of fun, and everything went very smoothly. The only concern that we had
early on was that there wouldn't be enough quilts, but Amy and Deloris
emptied their stores to make our room look less sad and more full. We
had many quilts entered, each one special. We had a turnout of around 90
to 100 people walk through our display (even one couple all the way from
Minnesota!) with no accidents or mishaps, I am pleased to report.
Before I list the winners, I just want to say that there was one tie in the applique category and a few great quilts that were very lovely but just didn't make the cut. All the quilts entered were deserving.

September Meeting
We had a good meeting last night! There was a good attendance, and some developments were made. Pat had a wonderful program on how to make curved seams and flawless mitering. She is a very gifted lady and she offered some expert advice to those who might find themselves struggling with a Wedding Ring pattern.
Please mark your calendars for these upcoming dates;
Next FRIDAY THE 25TH is the SET-UP DAY FOR OUR QUILT SHOW at the Federated Church of Hamilton. We will be at the church from 3pm to 8pm accepting quilts to enter in the show. Please bring as many quilts as you like (as long as they weren't winners last year at our show!). And if anyone is available to assist us in preparing the church for the show, your help will be most welcome!
Next SATURDAY THE 26TH is the DAY OF THE QUILT SHOW! We will be open from 9am-4pm. PLEASE PICK UP YOUR QUILTS AFTER THE SHOW BETWEEN 4:30pm AND 5pm! We should have the votes counted and the ribbons pinned onto the quilts by 4:30.
Also, two more (plus two tentative) important dates;
October 2nd - Friday Night Sew, Kidder
October 15th - Regular meeting in Hamilton + President's Mystery Quilt Program*
Also, Carolyn is starting to plan our outings to Brunswick, MO and Fabricquilt in Kansas City. These outings will most likely be on weekdays. Everyone is very busy, and working around the schedules of each member planning to attend and the business hours of the places we are planning to visit is going to be a difficult job. Please keep posted to your inboxes for further information from Carolyn.
*For those of you planning to participate in the Mystery Quilt Program in October and were not at the meeting last night to collect details (or if you lost your notes, or if you just need to review), these are the required materials;
OCTOBER MYSTERY QUILT PROJECT
MATERIALS NEEDED:
6 1/2" STAR BLOCK OF YOUR CHOICE
4 - 1 1/4" X 9 STRIPS TO FRAME BLOCK
1 YD LIGHT
1 YD DARK
(THESE SHOULD COORDINATE WITH YOUR STAR)
28" X 28" MUSLIN
28"X 28" BACKING
28" X 28" BATTING
PREPARATIONS FOR WORKSHOP:
1. MAKE STAR BLOCK OF YOUR CHOICE
2. FIND CENTER OF MUSLIN BY FOLDING IN HALF, PRESS. THEN FOLD IN HALF AGAIN AND PRESS. YOU SHOULD HAVE A + THAT WILL HELP YOU DRAW YOUR CENTER SQUARE.
3. DRAW A 6 3/4" SQUARE IN THE CENTER OF THE MUSLIN. FROM THE EDGES OF THE SQUARE MEASURE AND START DRAWING LINES 3/4" APART OUT TO THE EDGES OF THE MUSLIN. THE LINES WILL CROSS EACH OTHER AND CONTINUE TO THE EDGES. ACCURACY IS IMPORTANT AS THESE ARE THE LINES ALONG WHICH YOU WILL PLACE AND SEW, THEN FOLD, STRIPS.
4. LAYER BACKING (WRONG SIDE UP), THEN BATTING AND THEN MUSLIN ON TOP. BASTE OR PIN TOGETHER.
5. CUT 2 1/2 STRIPS FROM LIGHT AND DARK FABRICS. YOU WILL NEED 8 - 10 STRIPS.
BRING ALL OF THIS, YOUR SEWING MACHINE AND SEWING SUPPLIES TO THE OCTOBER MEETING TO FIND OUT HOW TO CONTINUE. A WALKING FOOT FOR YOUR SEWING MACHINE WILL BE VERY HELPFUL.
These are instructions straight from the horse's mouth (the president), so be assured that they are exact and reliable.
